Spelling Bee 2019 Update
Dear Leadership Worthington Spelling Bee Participants,
After a lot of thought and consideration, Leadership Worthington will not be organizing a Community Spelling Bee in 2019 and instead is planning a Community Trivia Night. Both the Leadership Worthington Board, and the Spelling Bee Committee have given this subject a great deal of thought and are in agreement that this is the best decision for our organization.
The fact is, participation has been declining over the last few years; both for the Adult Bee and the Youth Bee. This dip in participation has made it difficult to get both sponsorships and publicity for our event. That, combined with the fact that the Bee remains a very labor intensive event, has lead us to consider other ways we might engage the community in intellectual pursuits while also generating interest in Leadership Worthington.
We will do this by organizing a Community Trivia Night in the Fall of 2019. Our hope is that this event will do much of what our Bee has done for so many years; that is, bring the community together in the spirit of friendly competition, allow participants to “show what they know”, and position Leadership Worthington as a positive and impactful presence in the community.
I hope that you will understand our position and support us moving forward. I’d like to reach out to each of you later this year and invite you to participate in our first ever Leadership Worthington Community Trivia Night!
On behalf of the Leadership Worthington Board, I’d like to thank you for your support and participation over the years. We look forward to continuing to work with all of you in the future.
Sincerely,
Jeff Regensburger
Chair, Leadership Worthington Community Trivia Committee
Spelling Bee 2018
Another Successful BEE is in the Books!
On Thursday, April 12th we hosted our 25th Community BEE at WKHS. Of the seven adult teams, Congregation Beth Tikvah prevailed as the 2018 Champions. The competition was tough and the battle for first place came down to the champions and OCLC in a grueling 58 minute duel. It was one of the most exciting BEEs to date! Congratulations to all the participants and a big THANK YOU to our sponsors, supporters, volunteers and committee members. We couldn’t do it without such a great community!!
